KATHMANDU: Nepal’s women’s cricket team suffered a narrow defeat against Hong Kong in their third match of the ongoing Women’s Day Cup T20I tournament in Uganda, losing by just 2 runs.

Chasing a modest target of 101 runs set by Hong Kong, Nepal managed to score only 98 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Captain Indu Barma top-scored for Nepal with 32 runs but was dismissed on the final ball of the 19th over.

With 10 runs needed off the last over, Nepal could only add 7, falling agonizingly short of victory.

Pooja Mahato contributed 19 runs, while Bindu Rawal added 14. On the bowling front for Hong Kong, Mariko Hill took 2 wickets, while Alsion Siu and Kary Chan claimed 1 wicket each.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Hong Kong posted 100 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Captain Natasha Miles led the scoring with 35 runs, while Mariko Hill added 21.

For Nepal, Ishwari Bista and captain Indu Barma picked up 2 wickets each, while Rachana Chaudhary and Pooja Mahato took 1 wicket apiece.

This defeat marks Nepal’s second loss in the tournament, following their opening defeat to Namibia. However, they bounced back by defeating hosts Uganda in their second match.

Hong Kong, meanwhile, also recorded their second win after defeating Namibia earlier, despite losing their opening match to Uganda.
