KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has concluded that a new political consensus should be reached, including the reinstatement of the monarchy.
A meeting of RPP office bearers, chaired by party president Rajendra Lingden at the central office in Dhumbarahi on Monday, arrived at this conclusion.
Referring to the former king as ‘the king,’ the party deemed the recent welcome event for him a success.
“RPP extends heartfelt gratitude to the large number of citizens who gathered at the airport and along the roads to welcome the king,” said RPP’s publicity chief Mohan Kumar Shrestha in a statement, “The overwhelming and enthusiastic participation has proven the necessity and inevitability of the monarchy in Nepal.”
Citing public sentiment and the country’s needs, the party asserted that Nepal must now move towards a new political understanding.
“RPP calls on all political parties to work towards an inclusive political system that does not exclude anyone,” the statement read. “We also urge all parties to initiate the necessary dialogue to achieve this new consensus.”
