SYANGJA: Bishnu Giri, a leader of the Unified Socialist party led by Madhav Kumar Nepal, has been arrested on charges of rape.
Giri, who serves as the chair of the Unified Socialist Syangja District Committee and vice-chair of the party’s Gandaki Province committee, was taken into custody by the District Police Office, Syangja, on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the Kaski District Court.
The Kaski District Court had granted permission to arrest Giri, 51, a resident of Putalibazaar Municipality-14 in Syangja, in connection with the rape case on February 14.
Acting on the court’s order, police arrested Giri from his home and placed him in custody.
