KUKL reports 500,000 liters of water wasted due to pipe burst in Thapathali



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has reported that approximately 500,000 liters of water were wasted following a pipe burst in Thapathali this morning.

This is the second such incident in recent weeks, with a previous pipe burst on February 12 in Babarmahal leading to the loss of 1 million liters of water.

KUKL spokesperson Prakash Kumar Rai informed that the issue in Thapathali was resolved quickly. He noted that while the cause of the burst is still under investigation, it is believed to be related to high water pressure.

Rai said that the technical team of the KUKL is currently assessing the situation in the area.

Rai also highlighted that a damaged sewage pipe was discovered in the area, which had been brought in after a third-party inspection during its purchase.

If the damage is found to be caused by human error, it will be addressed.

Although the issue was quickly managed, KUKL pointed out that the lack of coordination among government agencies, especially during road digging activities, has caused similar problems with pipes in various locations. Additionally, water pressure is another factor contributing to these incidents.

KUKL assured that water distribution in Thapathali will return to normal in a few days, as the technical team continues to work on repairs.
