Youth dedicated to nation is the need of the day: PM Oli

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has emphasized that disciplined and dedicated youth are the foremost need of every nation.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the National Service Corps on Sunday, Prime Minister Oli called on people to recognize the importance of having youth who are both disciplined and dedicated, as they are crucial to the progress of any nation. He assured that the government remains committed to the overall development of youth.

Former Insurance Board Chair Silwal cleared of corruption charges, days after Ojha’s appointment

Just six days after Sharad Ojha’s appointment as the chair of the Nepal Insurance Authority, former chair Surya Prasad Silwal has been cleared of corruption charges by the Special Court.

The bench of judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Murari Babu Shrestha ruled on Sunday that the allegations against Silwal could not be substantiated.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had accused Silwal of submitting false documents regarding his educational qualifications and citizenship details, alleging corruption.

Prakash Man hints at presidential bid for Nepali Congress

Nepali Congress (NC) leader, Deputy Prime Minister, and Urban Development Minister Prakash Man Singh has hinted at vying for the post of the next president of the party.

As speculation grows within the party about the race to select the new president, Singh has made it clear that he will not step back under any circumstances.

During a press conference organized by the Press Union in Surkhet today, Singh confirmed that he is a contender for the NC president’s position.

Home Minister Lekhak invites ‘No Cable Car’ group for talks

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has invited the ‘No Cable Car’ group, which is protesting the construction of the cable car in Pathibhara, Taplejung, to engage in talks.

Responding to queries from lawmakers during Sunday’s National Assembly session, Minister Lekhak emphasized that the government is taking the concerns raised by the ‘No Cable Car’ group seriously and urged them to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible.

Govt hospitals must provide prescribed medicines without excuses: Minister Paudel

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has stated that hospitals will no longer be allowed to claim a lack of health insurance medicines as a reason for not providing them.

During his visit to Ilam Hospital today, Minister Paudel emphasized that medicines prescribed by the Health Insurance Board must be provided in hospitals without exception.

He remarked, “It is illegal to claim that medicines are unavailable.” Minister Paudel highlighted that the government and the Health Insurance Board have approved a list of 98 essential medicines, which should be mandatory for all hospitals.

Gold price holds steady at Rs 168,100 per tola today

After a decline of 3,400 rupees over the past three days, the price of gold stabilized today.

The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers reports that gold was priced at 168,100 rupees per tola, the same rate as last Friday.

On Friday, the price of gold fell by 2,200 rupees per tola. It also dropped by 1,000 rupees on Wednesday and by 200 rupees on Thursday.

Previously, gold had reached a high of 171,300 rupees per tola, marking its highest price to date. Similarly, the price of silver has remained unchanged today, with the current rate set at 1,915 rupees per tola, according to the Federation.

Five rural municipalities in Humla wait for chief administrative officer

Five rural municipalities in Humla district have no chief administrative officer since the third week of January. The post of chief administrative officer is lying vacant at Simkot, Sarkegad, Chankheli, Adanchuli and Tanjakot rural municipalities in the district.

The officers assigned by the government have not arrived here yet. The absence of significant officers has badly affected daily activities, putting service seekers at the receiving end.

Rhino census uncertain due to budget crunch following suspension of USAID project

The rhino census, which is conducted every five years, has become uncertain due to lack of budget. This year, there has been a shortage of budget for conducting rhino count as it has been done depending on funding from donors.

The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation has been conducting rhino census in collaboration with various agencies working with the park.

NA Session: lawmakers express concern on various issues

National Assembly (NA) lawmaker Gomadevi Timilsina has demanded the government ensure prompt justice to victims of cooperatives fraud.

Airing her views in a meeting of the upper house today, the lawmaker asserted that no one either it is leader or political cadres or someone else should not be protected the charge of the misappropriation of cooperative funds.

Doubting the government’s initiation to address the issue, she said the number of victims stood large and they need prompt justice.

NEPSE soars by 75.24 points today

On the first day of trading this Sunday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) rose by 75.24 points, reaching a total of 2,890.28 points.

A total of 29,166,656 shares, valued at Rs 14.25 billion, were traded across 302 companies, with 139,596 transactions taking place.

Out of the 13 groups that were traded, the mutual fund group saw a decline in its index.

The share price of 196 companies increased, while 44 companies experienced a drop in share price. Four companies’ share prices remained unchanged.

Month-long Roja fasting of Muslims begins today

The month-long fasting (aka Roja) of the Muslim community has begun today. The fast, which is considered rigorous, is observed with established rituals by the Muslim community. The commencement of the festival is determined according to the Hijri (Urdu) calendar.

According to tradition, Saturday marked the end of the month of “Shaban,” and today marks the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Hijri calendar, which is celebrated with the start of fasting.

Italian legend goalkeeper Buffon arrives in Kathmandu

Italian legend goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has arrived in Kathmandu. Buffon has come to Kathmandu as a special guest to participate in the final match of the KP Oli Cup to be held on Monday.

The final match to be held at the Dashrath Stadium on Monday will pit Tribhuvan Army Club against Machhindra Club. The host National Youth Association has brought Buffon to Kathmandu as a guest.

The 47-year-old Buffon has played 176 matches for Italy and played a key role in Italy’s victory in the 2006 World Cup.

NA passes Nepal Bar Council Bill

The National Assembly (NA) meeting today unanimously passed the Bill on Nepal Bar Council (Second Amendment), 2081.

Earlier, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya had tabled the bill along with the report from the Legislation Management Committee seeking discussions on the bill.

Khadka hints at running for NC President, compares journey with Deuba

Nepali Congress Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka has hinted at contesting for the party presidency in the upcoming 15th General Convention.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday ahead of a training and orientation program in Rupandehi, Khadka indicated his possible candidacy, stating that his political journey mirrors that of current party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

“I started as an ordinary member of the Nepal Student Union (NSU), moving up as a unit member, president, central member, district vice president, and district president, and now I am the party’s vice president,” Khadka said. “Congress is a party of fair competition and endless possibilities.”

Pradip Pariyar appointed to the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Leadership

Dalit rights activist Pradip Pariyar has been appointed as a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Leadership for the 2025-2026 term.

Pariyar, the founder and chair of the Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance, will contribute to global discussions on caste-based discrimination, exclusion, and social justice.

The Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance has welcomed his appointment, stating that it will strengthen the movement for a more equitable society.

RSP central member Thapa steps down after U.S. arrest

Mohan Jung Thapa, a central member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been detained by U.S. immigration authorities, leading him to step down from his party responsibilities.

Thapa was arrested at Pennsylvania Airport last week while traveling from Nepal to the U.S. and is currently held at the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center. The exact charges against him remain unclear, but reports suggest he had a history of controversial activities while in the U.S.

RSP acting spokesperson Manish Jha confirmed that Thapa had already submitted a request to step down, citing personal legal issues that he needed to resolve.
