Former chief election commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav joins Maoist’s Tarai-Madhesh Awareness Campaign

KATHMANDU: Former Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has joined the Maoist Center’s Tarai-Madhesh Awareness Campaign.

Yadav participated in an interaction program with local people’s representatives, intellectuals, and civil society leaders in Rajbiraj, Saptari, on Friday.

The event was also attended by Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Senior Vice Chair Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and Mahindra Ray Yadav, Chair of Nepal Samajwadi Party, who recently decided to unite with the Maoists.

During his address, Yadav praised the Maoists for their role in establishing a federal democratic republic in Nepal, emphasizing the need for the party to protect and implement this system.

Yadav highlighted the importance of socio-economic transformation in Nepal, stressing the need to address existing economic disparities.

It is uncommon for former members of constitutional bodies to join political parties, but Yadav, along with former Commissioner Sudhir Shah, was appointed as a member of the Maoist Center’s Election Department in December 2021.

The department is led by Advocate Khimlal Devkota and comprises 28 members.

Dr. Yadav served as the Chief Election Commissioner from July 11, 2016, after working in the Election Commission since 2006.

He retired from the Election Commission on March 24, 2019, before joining the Maoists.
