Foreign Minister Dr Rana holds separate meetings with Foreign Ministers of Spain and Slovakia



KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba held a bilateral meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Spain Jose Manual Alvares Bueno in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday.

The foreign ministers who are now in Geneva to attend the 58th high-level session of the United Nations Human Rights Council had a sideline meeting.

During the meet, Dr Rana lauded the cooperation extended by Spain as a significant member of the European Union (EU) for the socio-economic development of Nepal.

She also thanked for the assistance provided to Nepal in the difficult times of COVID-19 and earthquake.

The Foreign Minster also urged Spain for the support and cooperation possibly required for Nepal in the process of graduating into a developing nation by 2026 and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Minister Rana also appealed for Spain’s support in the context when Nepal has been advocating for justice in international forums regarding impact of climate change in Nepal.

She also urged the Spanish government to support  Nepal’s already-announced candidacy for the post of member of the UN Human Rights Council from 2027 to 2029 and the candidacy to be filed for the temporary member of the Economic and Social Council from 2029 to 2031 and the Security Council for 2037 to 2038.

She invited Spain to participate in the Sagarmatha Sambad programme, which Nepal is organizing in coming May with the theme of climate change, mountains and the future of humanity.

Also on the occasion, Dr Rana urged Spain for the establishment of embassy in Nepal.

Likewise, Foreign Minster Dr Rana had a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Slovakia, Juraj Blanar.

On the occasion, she discussed the matters related to the mutual relations between Nepal and Slovakia and also the candidacy of Nepal to the UN and the issues Nepal has been raising on climate change in international forums.

Also today, Minster Dr Rana held a meeting with Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of Mexico Enrique Javier Ochoa Martinez.

On the occasion, they discussed matters related to several aspects of Nepal-Mexico relations and areas for future cooperation.
