11 die when a boat capsizes in India’s Bhopal

BHOPAL: At least 11 people have died when a boat they were in travelling in capsized during the Ganpati Visarjan at Khatlapura Ghat in Bhopal today morning.

Indian media reports said five others have been rescued. A search operation is underway, Indian authorities said.

According to Bhopal police, the incident occurred early Friday morning when a boat carrying 16 people for Ganesh immersion capsized at the Khatlapura Ghat.

Locals said, only these many people had drowned there.

At least 40 police personnel carried out the search and rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh minister PC Sharma has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. (Agencies)
