Maoist Centre to contest upcoming general election without an alliance
Maoist Centre chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that his party will not bother about toppling the government.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of ‘Maoists with People: Tarai-Madhesh Awakening Campaign’ launched by the party from Kachankabal here today, he expressed the view that the Maoist Centre would now go to the people.
“We have taken a pledge to move forward by cooperating with the people rather joining or toppling the government,” Dahal said.
Morning procession held at Pashupatinath on Mahashivaratri eve
On the eve of Mahashivaratri, a morning procession was held at the Pashupatinath Temple premises under the leadership of Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey.
Minister Pandey arrived at the temple in the morning to participate in the procession organized by the Pashupati Area Development Trust.
The event saw the participation of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Trust officials, students from Sanskrit Vidyashram, teachers, and locals.
Committee formed to select new NEPSE CEO
A three-member committee has been formed to select the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).
The committee is headed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Sebantak Pokharel, with Joint Secretary Amrit Lamsal and Dr. Khomraj Kharel as expert members.
The formation of the committee follows a ministerial-level decision by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
Gold price up by Rs. 500 per tola today
The price of gold has risen again today, increasing by 500 rupees per tola. Silver has also seen a price hike.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Association, the price of gold has reached 170,800 rupees per tola today.
After a 1,000-rupee decrease last Friday, the price of gold rose by 300 rupees yesterday, reaching 170,300 rupees per tola.
Maoist Center launches Tarai-Madhesh awareness campaign
The Maoist Center has launched the ‘Tarai-Madhesh Awareness Campaign’ from Kachankawal in Jhapa.
The campaign, which began today, will span across the Tarai-Madhesh region, concluding in Kanchanpur on March 20.
Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with the party’s central leadership, arrived in Jhapa to inaugurate the campaign.
Earthquake of magnitude 3.1 jolts Lamjung
An earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was felt in Lamjung at 9:11 am today.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the epicenter of the quake was near Khudikhola in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-2, Ghanpokhara.
Tremors were also felt in other parts of the district. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.
Call for implementation of national policy on persons with disabilities
Rights activists in Surkhet have called for the effective implementation of the national policy on persons with disabilities.
During an interaction organized by the Federation of Parents of Intellectual Disability, Nepal, in collaboration with UNPRPD and UNDP in Birendranagar, participants emphasized the need for robust policy enforcement to enhance accessibility for persons with disabilities across all sectors.
Mukunda Hari Dahal, former president of the Federation and an advocate, outlined the provisions of the National Policy on Persons with Disabilities 2023, highlighting its potential to improve access and inclusion for persons with disabilities. He stressed the importance of strengthening the policy’s implementation.
