Amresh Kumar Singh demands transparency on foreign aid and NGO funding

KATHMANDU: Independent Member of Parliament Dr. Amresh Kumar Singh has called on the government to provide detailed information on the foreign aid and assistance received from donor agencies in Nepal so far.

During Monday’s House of Representatives meeting, Singh urged the government to present a comprehensive report on the funds received and their expenditure.

He highlighted the Parliament’s right to access this information, particularly regarding the allocation of funds for sensitive issues such as religious conversion and caste-related conflicts.

“How much money was spent on religious conversion, and how much was spent on creating religious tension? How much was invested in dividing the country? This House has the right to keep all this information,” Singh said.

He also criticized former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, alleging that he avoided monitoring NGOs despite a parliamentary committee’s decision to do so.

Singh further accused the government of neglecting the National Integrity Policy, which aims to regulate foreign funding and ensure transparency.

Singh demanded that the current government issue a white paper detailing the amount of money received from NGOs and its areas of investment. He emphasized the need for accountability to ensure that foreign aid is used transparently and effectively.
