MP Khanal urges timely auction of seized goods to boost revenue

KATHMANDU: House of Representatives member Dhruba Bahadur Khanal has called on the government to enhance revenue collection by auctioning goods seized by the Customs Office promptly.

Speaking during an emergency session of the House of Representatives today, MP Khanal expressed concern over the significant waste of government revenue due to delays in auctioning seized items.

Khanal highlighted that goods confiscated by the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been lying unsold for long periods, resulting in financial losses.

He cited an example from Maheshpur, where sugar worth Rs 5 million had to be destroyed at a cost of Rs 500,000 due to the delay in auctioning.

He further pointed out that vehicles, including trucks and motorcycles, are rusting at customs offices across the country, leading to potential revenue loss.

MP Khanal urged the government to expedite the auction process to prevent wastage of seized goods and maximize revenue collection.
