Govt. undermining multi-party democracy: Madhav Nepal

KATHMANDU: Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has accused the Nepali Congress-UML-led government of undermining multi-party democracy and attempting to push for a two-party system.

Speaking at his party’s central committee meeting on Friday, Nepal criticized the government for seeking to establish a one-party dictatorship under the guise of a two-party system.

“The current government is challenging the very concept of multi-party democracy and attempting to implement a two-party system. In reality, this is no different from advocating for a one-party dictatorship in the name of a two-party system,” he said.

“In this context, they are working to eliminate smaller and competing parties, seeking to establish a dictatorship across the country through various methods of control,” he stated.

“Those who have long been accustomed to violating the constitution are now stepping further into violating the law. They are disregarding parliamentary rules and regulations and ignoring the legal framework.”

He also accused the government of targeting its critics. “Whenever there are critics, they are quick to silence them. They show no concern for the country’s issues,” he added.

“They are not interested in the problems of the people or the country’s development.”
