KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has urged Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Surjya Narayan Patro, to ensure an impartial investigation into the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal.

Speaking with Minister Patro over the phone on Wednesday, Rana requested a fair probe into Prakriti’s death and action against those responsible.

She also urged Minister Patro to ensure a safe learning environment for Nepali students at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneshwar.

In response, Minister Patro assured that the Odisha government is taking the case seriously and has formed a high-level investigation committee to deliver justice for Prakriti.

“He informed that a dedicated hotline has been set up for Nepali students and their guardians, and arrangements are being made for those who returned home to resume their studies at the hostel,” Rana stated.

Patro also mentioned that staff members involved in mistreating students have been dismissed, and legal action is underway.

“During the conversation, Minister Patro emphasized that Odisha values its strong ties with Nepal and is committed to maintaining a positive relationship in the future,” Rana added.
