KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), established to fight corruption, is marking its 34th anniversary today.

The celebration is taking place at the CIAA’s Tangal office, featuring special programs aimed at promoting good governance.

CIAA Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay announced that President Ramchandra Paudel has been invited to be the chief guest at today’s event.

The CIAA is a constitutional body created to fight corruption in all its forms. Authorized by the Constitution, the Commission aims to control corruption through various strategies, including punitive, preventive, promotional, and institutional capacity-building efforts.

Article 239 of the Constitution outlines the CIAA’s functions, duties, and powers. The anti-graft body is empowered to investigate and take action against individuals holding public office who misuse their authority for corrupt practices.

According to the CIAA’s 34th annual report, a total of 27,714 complaints have been resolved out of 36,186 complaints received, including 26,918 registered by the Commission and its subordinate offices in the fiscal year 2080/81, and 9,268 in the previous fiscal year.
