PM Oli calls meeting of ruling coalition’s high-level mechanism amid deadlock over ordinances

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has called a meeting of the ruling party’s high-level political mechanism.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 pm on today (Sunday) at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

A party leader revealed that the meeting will address various issues, including the ongoing deadlock over six ordinances recently issued by the government.

The high-level political mechanism also includes Prime Minister KP Oli, who is also the Chairman of the CPN-UML, and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Its purpose is to ensure the success of the Congress-UML coalition government.

The government had planned to submit the ordinances to the House of Representatives and the National Assembly for decision.

However, after failing to reach an agreement with the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal—whose support was crucial in the National Assembly—the ordinances were withdrawn from the agenda of both houses that day.

The government had submitted six ordinances to both Houses.

Since then, more than 50 motions to reject the ordinances have been filed in the House of Representatives.
