Speaker Ghimire writes to Arab Parliament President for Bipin Joshi’s release

KATHMANDU: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has written a letter to the President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammad Ahmed Al-Yamahi, on Friday, requesting the early release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who was kidnapped by Hamas.

In his letter, Speaker Ghimire urged Al-Yamahi to take special initiatives to ensure the safe release of Bipin Joshi.

“In light of the strong relations between Nepal and the Arab League, I kindly request you to take proactive measures and provide support for the early release of Nepali student Bipin Joshi, who has been held captive by Hamas since October 7, 2023,” the letter read.

Speaker Ghimire expressed confidence that the Arab League, given its cordial relationship with Nepal, would assist in ensuring Joshi’s safe return to his homeland.

The letter also reminded Al-Yamahi that the Nepalese government has welcomed the recent ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Speaker Ghimire reiterated the importance of diplomatic support for Joshi’s release and noted that Nepal remains hopeful for a positive resolution.

Joshi was abducted following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. The Nepali government is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to secure his release.

During a meeting with Speaker Ghimire last Sunday, Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Smulik Ari Bash, suggested that parliamentary diplomacy could be used to facilitate Joshi’s release.

Speaker Ghimire also highlighted that Nepal has been actively involved in regional and sub-regional organizations such as SAARC and BIMSTEC, emphasizing the potential for enhanced cooperation between Nepal and the Arab League.
