Court orders Rabi Lamichhane’s release on bail of Rs 5.4 million

KATHMANDU: The Chitwan District Court has ordered the release of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane on a bail amount of Rs 5.4 million in connection with the Sahara Cooperative fund misappropriation case.

The order was issued on Thursday by Judge Dayaram Dhakal’s bench. Lamichhane, who was sent to custody on Wednesday after the completion of arguments, will be released upon submitting the bail amount.

Lamichhane, along with 31 others, was charged on Tuesday for allegedly embezzling Rs 320.9 million from Sahara Cooperative.

Following the registration of the fraud case, Lamichhane appeared before the court on Wednesday, where his statement was recorded. The final hearing on his detention took place on Thursday, leading to the bail order.

Among the 32 accused, 12 individuals have been charged with both organized crime and fraud, while the remaining face fraud charges only.
