KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has formally requested Speaker Devraj Ghimire to lift his suspension from the position of Member of Parliament (MP).

On Friday, Lamichhane visited Speaker Ghimire’s office and submitted a petition seeking the removal of the suspension.

In his petition, Lamichhane argued that his suspension from the MP post should be reconsidered, as he has been granted bail by the Kaski, Kathmandu, and Rupandehi District Courts and has not been convicted of any criminal offense.

The petition reads: “I, the petitioner, am an elected member of the House of Representatives from Chitwan District Constituency No. 2. Based on a letter from the District Police Office, Kaski, the Criminal Investigation and Prosecution Branch, in accordance with Article 103 (6) of the Constitution of Nepal, informed the Honorable Speaker about my arrest on 2081/07/02 during an investigation of a criminal offense.”

“On 2081/07/03, the Federal Parliament (House of Representatives) issued a notice according to Sub-rule (2) of Rule 248 of the House of Representatives Rules 2071. Subsequently, on 2081/09/08, another notice was issued under Section 27 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2064,” Lamichhane wrote.

“I have been investigated for the alleged criminal offenses, with charges filed in several courts. However, the courts have now issued orders for my release, and I request the Speaker to consider this information.”
