PM Oli calls for reforms in politics and governance

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms in all sectors of society, including politics, to ensure stability and prosperity.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the first Young Lawyers Summit, organized by the Nepal Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Concern Committee, Oli asserted that the country cannot be run through mere political stunts. He stressed the importance of fulfilling responsibilities with honesty and dedication to free Nepal from disorder and poverty.

Highlighting the role of democracy, Oli stated that since it has been established through the leadership of political parties and public participation, all stakeholders must commit to maintaining peace, security, good governance, and prosperity.

He urged lawmakers to remember that they represent the sovereign people while drafting legislation and cautioned against the misconception that the government holds supreme authority.

“Parliament should enact just laws, and concerned bodies must ensure their proper implementation. Democracy thrives on a balance of power, control, and strict adherence to the law,” he said.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to making Nepal a well-governed, corruption-free, and prosperous nation, calling for active cooperation from the legal community.

Oli also assured that the government would implement the recommendations from the conference and address the issue of low wages for young legal professionals.

He reaffirmed the administration’s support for the legal profession and the youth, vowing to prioritize lawmaking efforts for their advancement.
