Federal parliament winter session: PM and top leaders to address opening session

KATHMANDU: The winter session of Nepal’s Federal Parliament is set to begin on January 31, with the schedule for the month of Magh (until mid-February) already finalized.

A meeting held today at Singha Durbar, chaired by Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, included the chief whips and whips of the major political parties, where the session agenda was prepared.

Chief whip of the ruling UML Mahesh Bartaula shared that Prime Minister and top political party leaders will address the opening session on the first day.

Alongside the addresses, several ordinances brought forward by the government will be presented to the parliament. Bartaula mentioned that after the Prime Minister’s address, the session will include speeches from other political party leaders, including the leader of the opposition.

In addition, chief whip of the Nepali Congress Shyam Kumar Ghimire confirmed that the agenda for the winter session until mid-February has been prepared and agreed upon by all parties. The ordinances will be presented for decision during subsequent meetings.

The proposed agenda will be submitted to the Business Advisory Committee for approval in a meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Chief whip Bartaula said the agreement between the ruling and opposition parties to pass important bills and existing legislation, ensuring the effectiveness of the upcoming session.

Participants in the meeting also included chief whip of Maoist Centre Hitraj Pandey and whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Nisha Dangi, all committed to making the winter session of Parliament more efficient and productive.
