Multiple arrests in Kathmandu for fraud and forgery

KATHMANDU: Authorities in the Kathmandu Valley have arrested several individuals involved in cases of fraud and forgery, underscoring efforts to curb criminal activities in the region.

Three individuals were apprehended on charges of defrauding people of approximately Rs 3.1 million by falsely promising to arrange foreign employment.

Those arrested include Tilak Bahadur Karki of Baglung Tarakhola Rural Municipality-3, Hari Bahadur Bista of Pyuthan Naubahini Rural Municipality-6, and Jamuna Pariyar of Syangja Galyang Municipality-8.

According to the Central Police News Room, Pariyar defrauded victims of Rs 2.8 million, Karki of Rs 1 million, and Bista of Rs 2 million.

They were taken into custody by a team mobilized from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and have been sent to the Foreign Employment Department for further legal proceedings.

In another case, Dhruv Kumar Raya and Rajan Dangol, permanent residents of Udayapur Rautamai Rural Municipality-7, were arrested on charges of stealing mobile phones and personal documents.

Police investigations have revealed that the stolen items were allegedly used for fraudulent activities.

Similarly, Bikash Shrestha, a 48-year-old resident of Shreekhandpur, Dhulikhel Municipality-5, Kavrepalanchok, was detained for forgery. Shrestha was found to have used counterfeit academic certificates, including fake Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree transcripts in Business Studies, allegedly issued by Tribhuvan University.

His arrest followed a review of university records that confirmed the documents were fabricated.
