Case against Rabi Lamichhane to be filed today in Supreme Cooperative fraud case



BUTWAL: The District Attorney’s Office in Rupandehi is set to file a supplementary case in the District Court, Butwal, today in connection with the high-profile Supreme Cooperative Fraud case.

The case will implicate Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, Gorkha Media Network Vice Chair and former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chhabilal Joshi, among others, on charges of cooperative fraud and organized crime. Authorities are seeking legal action and compensation from the accused.

While initial plans were made to file the case last Friday, delays in receiving the original documents from the Supreme Court postponed the process.

The Government Attorney’s Office will now proceed against 14 additional individuals identified in a supplementary investigation conducted by the police.

The police submitted their investigation report on Lamichhane, Joshi, and others to the District Attorney’s Office, Rupandehi, recommending charges.

he initial case, registered on April 15 2024, accused 28 individuals, including GB Rai, Supreme Cooperative Chair Om Prakash Gurung, and cooperative managers Sagar KC and Kumar Ramtel, of fraudulent activities.

According to the Area Police Office, Butwal, investigations have now led to charges against a total of 42 individuals, with the supplementary case focusing on the additional 14 accused.
