KATHMANDU: The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has issued a cautionary notice urging citizens to avoid traveling to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and similar destinations under the pretext of lucrative job opportunities.

The embassy highlighted the plight of Nepali citizens who have been lured by promises of high-paying employment in these countries, only to face exploitation and, in some cases, become hostages.

In a recent case, a Nepali individual, forced into illegal work in Myanmar’s Golden Triangle, managed to escape and entered Thailand. With the assistance of Thai government agencies, the individual was safely repatriated to Nepal on Friday.

The embassy has strongly advised Nepalis to pursue foreign employment only through official channels with proper labor permits, adhering to government regulations. It warned against seeking quick and illegal financial gains, which often lead to dire consequences.
