Rajendra Lingden: Current government leaning toward authoritarianism

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chair Rajendra Lingden criticized the current government for leaning toward authoritarianism.

Speaking at a tea reception organized in Kathmandu’s Bhrikutimandap on Saturday to mark the 303rd birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah and National Unity Day, Lingden pointed out that bypassing the parliament and introducing ordinances reflects the government’s authoritarian tendencies.

He remarked that the government’s reliance on ordinances exposes its intent, accusing it of undermining multiparty democracy and democratic practices. Lingden vowed to oppose such actions strongly.

He also praised the government’s decision to grant a public holiday on National Unity Day, describing it as a meaningful achievement. He suggested that the government itself should lead the celebration of the day next year.

The tea reception was attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, ministers, leaders and workers of various parties, and well-wishers.
