KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, who was released on bail on Thursday in the case involving the misappropriation of funds from Pokhara’s Surya Darshan Cooperative, has been handed over to his family.
As there is an additional case related to the cooperative in Kathmandu, Lamichhane is scheduled to appear at the Kathmandu District Court on Friday, according to RSP Acting Spokesperson Manish Jha.
Following his release from court, the police conducted a medical examination at Pokhara’s Fishtail Hospital before handing Lamichhane over to his family.
In accordance with the court order, Lamichhane was released from Kaski Police custody after posting a bail of 6.5 million rupees. Six other co-defendants were also released after posting bail.
Lamichhane, along with Chhabilal Joshi, Leela Pachai, Ram Bahadur Khanal, Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Aarti Gurung, was released after posting the required bail amounts, as confirmed by Shrestedar Rajan Khanal of the Kaski District Court.
The court noted that defendant Leela Pachai remained in custody as she failed to pay the bail amount on Thursday.
The decision to release the defendants on bail followed ten days of closed-door hearings.
The Attorney General’s Office has filed cases against 63 people in total at the Kaski District Court related to the Surya Darshan Cooperative fraud case.
