Rabi Lamichhane released from police custody after 84 days

Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been released from Kaski police custody after 84 days.

Following the Kaski District Court’s order to release him on Rs 6.5 million bail, Lamichhane was freed after submitting the bail amount through a bank guarantee.

All accused, including Lamichhane, will now undergo medical examinations at Fishtail Hospital in Pokhara after completing the court formalities.

Kaski District Court grants bail to Rabi Lamichhane and others in cooperative fraud case

Kaski District Court has granted bail to Rabi Lamichhane, the Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and other accused individuals in the ongoing cooperative fraud case.

District Court Kaski Judge Nitij Rai issued the order on Thursday evening, following a week-long closed-door hearing that involved detailed arguments from both the plaintiff and the defense.

Judge Rai ordered Lamichhane’s release on a bail amount of Rs 6.5 million, according to the Registrar Rajan Khanal.

Rabi and all seven detainees to be released on bail; what are the bail amounts?

The Kaski District Court has ordered the release of all seven accused, including Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane, on bail in connection with the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case.

After a week-long detention hearing, Judge Nitij Rai issued the decision Thursday evening. According to court registrar Rajan Khanal, Lamichhane was ordered to post a bail amount of Rs 6.5 million for his release.

The accused in the case, facing charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, include Lamichhane’s business partner and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, GB Rai’s associate Leela Pachhai, Aarti Gurung, former provincial assembly member Meena Gurung, her father and former British Army officer Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Nature Herbo’s Ram Bahadur Khanal.

Durga Prasai granted bail on the same day as Lamichhane

Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail of Rs 300,000.

Following a detention hearing on Thursday, Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel ruled in favor of granting Prasai bail.

A case against Prasai was filed on January 8, alleging criminal extortion by threatening a Nepali businessman using the name of notorious Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Three of the seven individuals arrested in connection with embezzlement and fraud charges at Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Savings and Credit Cooperative have been released on bail.

The Kaski District Court, presided over by Judge Nitij Rai, ordered the release of former UML provincial assembly member Meena Gurung, her father Krishna Bahadur Gurung, and Aarti Gurung on Thursday evening after they fulfilled their bail requirements.

The court had earlier set bail amounts for all seven accused, including Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Ravi Lamichhane.

Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC has criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for disrespecting the seven-point agreement.

Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Thursday, KC stated that the Prime Minister’s remark that constitutional amendments would only occur in 2031 was an insult to the seven-point agreement.

KC said while the final conclusion on constitutional amendments may take time, the process must begin now.
