Lamichhane pledges to fight for cooperative victims’ justice if granted release from custody

POKHARA: The hearing of the seven defendants, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, accused in the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud case, concluded on Thursday.

Following a day of rebuttal arguments by government lawyers, Judge Nitij Rai gave the defendants the opportunity to address the court.

In his address, Lamichhane expressed his commitment to fighting for justice for the victims of the cooperative, should the court order him to face trial.

“If I am allowed to fight this case without being in polic custody, I will ensure that I will fight to bring justice to the victims of the cooperatives,” Lamichhane stated in the court, according to sources present.

The hearing, which had been ongoing for three weeks, involved legal arguments from both sides. After completing rebuttals, government lawyers urged Judge Rai to send all the accused, including Lamichhane, to jail for remand.

Lamichhane and the other defendants now await a decision on whether they will be sent to jail for trial or allowed to fight the case outside.

The case, which has captured public attention, now rests in the hands of Judge Rai, who may issue an order regarding the remand of the defendants by this evening.

Suraj Adhikari, Information Officer of the District Court of Kaski, confirmed that the order regarding the trial of the defendants could be issued later today.
