Rishikesh Pokharel’s former secretary arrested



KATHMANDU: Anil Kumar Pokharel, the former personal secretary of Rishikesh Pokharel, the Chair of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee, has been arrested in a fraud case in Biratnagar.

According to DSP Bed Prakash Joshi, the spokesperson for the Morang Police, Anil was arrested early this morning in Biratnagar.

Anil was wanted by the police based on an arrest warrant issued by the court.

The case involves allegations that Anil defrauded a woman of Rs 3.88 million by promising to get her name enrolled in the MBBS program.

The woman, Baialal Chaudhary’s daughter, who is from a family in the agricultural sector in Saptrai, was assured admission to MBBS between 2014 and 2016 in exchange for the money.

After receiving the payment through multiple checks, Anil signed a partial receipt on the back of the checks and took responsibility for ensuring the admission.

However, when the woman’s name was never enrolled in the program, she demanded the return of the money.

In response, Anil forced Chaudhary to sign a document for Rs 5 million on the pretext of a loan, dated July 9, 2017. Upon realizing the deceit, Chaudhary demanded his original payment of Rs 3.88 million back.

Despite going to the police office in Rangeli and other authorities, no action was taken until Chaudhary filed a formal complaint with the High Court.
