UML approves Bhim Rawal’s expulsion and suspension of two leaders

KATHMANDU:  The CPN-UML central committee, in its eighth meeting on Sunday, approved the party secretariat’s decision from December 26 to expel former vice-chair Bhim Rawal.

Following the meeting, UML publicity department head Rajendra Gautam informed the media that the expulsion of Rawal and the suspension of standing committee member Binda Pandey and central committee member Ushakiran Timalsena were unanimously endorsed.

He stated, “The meeting reviewed organizational work, political reports, and decisions made by the central secretariat and politburo after the national representative council meeting. Actions taken against party leaders were also unanimously approved.”

Rawal, who had contested against KP Sharma Oli in the 10th national convention, was expelled from the party on grounds of anti-party activities.

The party barred him from entering its Chyasal headquarters starting December 26.

Meanwhile, Pandey and Timalsena faced six-month suspensions for publicly opposing the foundation-laying ceremony of the party’s central office in Kirtipur on October 11.

The office is being constructed on 10 ropanis of land donated by businessman Min Bahadur Gurung.

Speculation about the reversal of their suspension was dismissed as Chairman Oli garnered central committee approval for the disciplinary actions.

During the meeting, Oli presented a 43-page political report detailing the rationale, necessity, and opportunities of the UML’s coalition with the Nepali Congress, along with a review of the coalition’s six-month performance.
