Lumbini Buddhist University and Beijing Language and Culture University sign cooperation agreement

KATHMANDU: Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) and Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) of China have signed a cooperation agreement to promote cultural exchange, language teaching, and research between the two institutions.

The agreement was formalized in a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, in the presence of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was exchanged between LBU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Subarnalal Bajracharya and BLCU President Twang Feng.

As part of the agreement, a Nepal Institute will be established in Beijing, and a China Institute will be set up in Lumbini.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University, expressed his satisfaction with the growing academic and educational ties between Nepal and China. He highlighted the long-standing people-to-people relations between the two nations.

The event was attended by National Planning Commission member Geeta Kumari Adhikari, Lumbini University Registrar Dr Tilakram Acharya, and officials from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal.

The agreement follows Prime Minister Oli’s official visit to China last month, during which a separate agreement was signed for volunteer Chinese language teaching in Nepal.
