KATHMANDU: Nepal Airlines Corporation (Nepal Airlines), the national flag carrier, has completely halted its domestic flights due to a lack of operational aircraft.
The only remaining Twin Otter aircraft in operation has now been grounded, suspending all domestic flight services.
The airline has two Twin Otter planes for domestic flights. One of them has been grounded since Jestha, and the other was recently taken out of service due to technical issues.
Spokesperson Ramesh Paudel stated that technical problems have caused the suspension of flights since Sunday. He assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issues and resume services as soon as possible.
“One of the aircraft is grounded due to technical issues, and we have already initiated the necessary procedures to address the problem,” Paudel said. “The process started after the first aircraft was grounded, and we are expediting the work.”
Nepal Airlines primarily operates domestic flights from Kathmandu and regional hub airports to remote destinations.
For international operations, the airline has a fleet of two wide-body Airbus A330s and two narrow-body Airbus A320s.
