Three Nepalis arrested for aiding Chinese hackers

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three Nepalis for assisting the gang of Chinese hackers involved in stealing millions from ATMs after breaching banking systems in Nepal.

Police investigation has revealed that the operator of Desko Money Exchange and operator and Manager of Nepalaya Money Exchange based in Thamel had helped the hackers to accomplish their mission.

Police have arrested operator of Desko Bednath Lamichhane and operator of Nepalaya Roshan Pradhan Shrestha and its Manager Rewati Dawadi.

DSP Hobindra Bogati at Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu said that they were arrested after it was found that they had aided the Chinese hackers.

“They had exchanged Rs 2.9 million in USD for hackers,” DSP Bogati told Khabarhub.

According to him, it has been established through CCTV cameras that the hackers had exchanged the stolen money at the money exchanges.

Nepal Police on Sunday had made public five Chinese hackers who were arrested for their involvement in hacking the ATM system in Kathmandu amid a press conference.

A team of Metropolitan Police Range led by DSP Habindra Bogati had arrested them on Saturday night and seized over Rs 12.60 million and over 10,000 USD from their possession.

Another Chinese national involved in a hacking ATM system was arrested from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) as he was trying to flee the country.
