KATHMANDU: Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Chhabilal Joshi, who is currently in custody in connection with the cooperative case, has been admitted to the hospital after complaining of chest pain.

He was taken to the Gandaki Institute of Health Sciences for treatment following medical advice.

DSP Basanta Sharma, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kaski, confirmed that Joshi’s hospitalization was based on the doctor’s recommendation.

“We took him to the hospital for a check-up after he reported discomfort in his chest. He was admitted as per the doctor’s advice, and all necessary tests are being conducted,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is also in custody in the same case, has refused to be admitted to the hospital.

Lamichhane had his health monitored after experiencing consistently high blood pressure for several days.

According to DSP Sharma, Lamichhane was taken to the hospital yesterday for a check-up.

“The doctor examined him and recommended hospitalization, but Lamichhane declined,” Sharma said.

RSP co-treasurer Deepak Bohara, who met Lamichhane, explained that the police arranged the health check-up after growing concerns about his condition.

“His blood pressure remains high. However, he has chosen not to stay in the hospital, stating that his blood pressure is elevated due to overwork and mental stress,” Bohara said.

Notably, Lamichhane has previously criticized the practice of VIPs using hospital stays as a means to avoid custody. While serving as Home Minister, he had issued a three-point directive aimed at curbing this trend.
