CoAS Sigdel receives Honorary Rank from Indian Army

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Ashok Raj Sigdel, has been awarded the honorary rank of General in the Indian Army.

The honorary rank was conferred upon General Sigdel by President Draupadi Murmu during a special ceremony held at Rastrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday.

The ceremony was attended by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, along with senior military and security officials, as well as representatives from the Nepali Embassy.

During the event, Sigdel was addressed as ‘Suprabal Janasewashree Maharathi.’

General Sigdel arrived in India at the invitation of Indian Army Chief General Dwivedi. He is scheduled to return to Nepal on Friday.

Nepal and India have a long-standing tradition of conferring honorary military ranks.

Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Poudel had conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on Indian Army Chief General Dwivedi.
