Home Minister rejects allegations of mistreatment of Rabi

Prachanda's comments on Rabi Lamichhane "unfortunate"

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that there are efforts to influence the investigation into Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in the cooperative case.

Speaking to journalists in Surkhet on Tuesday, Minister Lekhak noted that efforts are being made to sway the investigation by surrounding the district police and government attorney’s offices while the case is still under review.

He also alleged that Lamichhane and members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have been taking actions to influence the investigation.

Minister Lekhak rejected rumors that Lamichhane had been mistreated by the police, calling them false.

“The government is serious about upholding human rights for everyone, and Lamichhane is being investigated in a fair and transparent manner,” he said.

He also emphasized that it would be inappropriate for anyone to speak in a way that interferes with the judicial process.

Regarding remarks by Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Chairman of the main opposition Maoist Center, who suggested the government was acting out of vengeance in the Rabi case, Lekhak called the comments “unfortunate.”

“It is regrettable that the leader of the main opposition party has made such statements,” Lekhak said. “It is wrong for anyone to attempt to influence the investigation.”

He further criticized the exaggeration of events and efforts to influence the investigation by gathering crowds.

On political matters, Minister Lekhak reaffirmed the positive relationship between the CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress, stating that the current government will continue to function as per their agreements.

He also dismissed rumors suggesting the government was on the verge of collapse, calling them baseless.

“There is no truth to the rumors about the government’s collapse. The relationship between the parties in the government remains cordial,” he said.
