Corruption case filed against Insurance Authority chief Silwal

KATHMANDU: A corruption case has been filed against the chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority, Surya Prasad Silwal, at the Special Court.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has accused Silwal of submitting false personal details and engaging in fraudulent activities.

Silwal is alleged to have manipulated his birthdate multiple times, resulting in discrepancies in his citizenship and passport documents.

Complaints also assert that he avoided mandatory retirement despite reaching the age of 66, which contravenes the law.

The CIAA’s investigation revealed inconsistencies in his documents, suggesting deliberate falsification.

Silwal, who should have retired on July 31, 2023, allegedly continued in office by fraudulently altering his birthdate to reduce his age by three years.

The charges, filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, claim that Silwal caused financial irregularities amounting to over 3.6 million rupees.

The CIAA has called for accountability and legal action in the case.
