NPL: Biratnagar Kings achieve highest chase

KATHMANDU: Biratnagar Kings secured a remarkable victory in the ongoing Nepal Premier League, successfully chasing the highest target in the tournament so far.

After losing their first two matches, Biratnagar turned the tables by overcoming a daunting 192-run target set by Lumbini Lions. Under Sandeep Lamichhane’s captaincy, Biratnagar avoided a third consecutive defeat in the tournament.

In the match at Kirtipur, Biratnagar completed the chase in 19.5 overs. Opener Lokesh Bam led the charge with a stunning half-century, scoring 71 runs off 47 balls, including three fours and six sixes. His innings ended in the 18th over when he was caught by Sandeep Jora off Ramon Simmonds.

Basir Ahdad contributed significantly with a quickfire 40 off 24 balls before being dismissed by Ben Cutting off Durgesh Gupta’s delivery. Martin Guptill also chipped in with a brisk 28 off 17 balls, hitting six boundaries.

Despite other players failing to reach double figures, Biratnagar clinched the win. Opener Ismat Alam and Nicholas Kirton were dismissed for ducks but could not stop their team’s resurgence.

For Biratnagar’s bowling unit, Durgesh Gupta shone with three wickets, while Saad Bin Zafar and Ramon Simmonds claimed two wickets each. Vivek Yadav added one wicket to the tally.

This victory marked a crucial turnaround for Biratnagar Kings, keeping their campaign alive in the league.
