Foreign Minister Rana holds talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi
Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana held a bilateral meeting with Wang Yi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, this evening in Chengdu.
During the meeting, Dr. Rana and Minister Yi exchanged views on various aspects of Nepal-China relations and discussed preparations for the upcoming official visit of Prime Minister K P Oli.
“The meeting was held in a very warm and cordial environment,” Foreign Minister Dr. Rana said on social media.
Five people killed in Ramehchhap jeep accident
Five people have died in a jeep accident in Ramechhap. According to DSP Pradeep Singh, five people died at the scene and three others were injured when a four-wheel-drive vehicle crashed into a cliff in Simaldanda, Gokulganga Rural Municipality-6, Ramechhap on Friday.
PM Oli China visit officially announced
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China has been officially announced.
In a joint statement released on Friday, the foreign ministries of Nepal and China confirmed the visit, which will take place from December 2 to 5, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
Prime Minister Oli will be accompanied by his wife, Radhika Shakya. During his visit, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as hold formal bilateral talks with Premier Li Keqiang.
Home Ministry warns of action against hateful statements on social media
The Home Ministry has issued a warning about taking action against individuals who make hateful statements on social media. The government highlighted concerns over expressions that undermine social harmony and public peace being spread online.
In a statement released on Friday, the Home Ministry emphasized that it is closely monitoring individuals who have recently posted hateful or misleading remarks on social media, which are illegal and disruptive to societal peace and order.
Court grants 5-day extension for Durga Prasai’s investigation
The Kathmandu District Court has granted permission to extend the investigation time limit for Durga Prasai by an additional 5 days. The court issued the order on Friday, allowing further time for the ongoing investigation.
It should be noted that the Kathmandu District Court had on November 24 granted permission to keep Prasai, medical entrepreneur arrested in connection with cybercrime, in custody for an additional five days to facilitate further investigation.
Local by-election: Silence period comes into effect
The silence period for the local level by-elections has come into effect from today at 12 AM, aimed at ensuring that the elections, scheduled for Sunday, December 1, are held in a clean, free, impartial, credible, and fear-free environment.
The Election Commission (EC) has provided guidelines on what can and cannot be done during the by-election silence period.
During this period, if any activities are found to violate the code of conduct, the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, along with district-level monitoring teams, local administration, security personnel, and election officers, will closely monitor the situation.
NRB maintains existing Monetary Policy in first quarterly review
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has published its first quarterly review of the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2081/82, confirming the continuation of the current policy framework without any new changes.
The review underscores a cautious yet flexible approach to monetary management, driven by an assessment of prevailing economic conditions, inflation trends, and foreign exchange reserve levels.
The primary objective of the monetary policy is to maintain inflation around 5.0%. In the first quarter, the average consumer inflation was 4.26%.
Gold price up by Rs 1,600 per tola today
The prices of gold and silver have both increased today, following a decline on Thursday, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation.
Gold, which fell by Rs 300 per tola on Thursday, increased by Rs 1,600 per tola today.
The price of gold was set at Rs 150,900 per tola, up from Rs 149,300 per tola yesterday. Silver also became expensive today, with its price increasing by Rs 45 per tola.
The price of silver was Rs 1,845 per tola, up from Rs 1,800 per tola yesterday. This week’s fluctuations in both gold and silver prices are largely attributed to the government’s reduction in customs duties.
Writ filed in SC demanding cancellation of decision not to prosecute Lilaballav Adhikari
A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking the cancellation of the decision not to prosecute former Koshi Province Minister Lilaballav Adhikari.
Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, who filed the petition, has urged the SC to overturn the decision and order a fresh investigation that could lead to formal charges being filed against Adhikari.
Tripathi argues that the decision not to prosecute Adhikari was made in bad faith and should be immediately annulled.
Paras Khadka asks spectators without tickets to watch NPL inaugural match at home
Paras Khadka, Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), has appealed to spectators who do not have tickets for the inaugural match of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Saturday to watch the game via television or digital platforms instead.
In a social media post on Friday, Secretary Khadka asked fans without tickets to refrain from calling or messaging for passes to the game. He emphasized the importance of respecting the limited seating capacity and infrastructure.
