Finance Minister hints at expanding scope of social security

KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel has said that the scope of social security should be expanded in the country.

At a programme organized on the 7th Social Security Day by the General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions (GEFONT) in the capital city on Tuesday, Finance Minister Paudel said the concept of social security was introduced by the CPN (UML) in Nepal and its scope should be expanded.

“UML forwarded the concept of social security and led the campaign to implement it practically and establish it,” UML leader and Finance Minister Paudel said.

Recalling the idea of the contribution-based social security scheme in the country, the Finance Minister stated that the idea of social security was to discharge the state’s responsibility to the citizens.

He termed the contribution-based social security scheme as a unique idea while stating that this will develop a sense of excitement among the Nepali working population and assure them of the future.

Minister Paudel also vowed to make the social security programme more effective and constructive.
