No loan agreement with China at this time: PM Oli
Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has announced that there will be no loan agreement during his official visit to China, which begins on December 2.
In a discussion today with former prime ministers and foreign ministers about the upcoming trip, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is not a loan project.
He also noted that borrowing from China is not a contentious issue.
Leaders raise 10 key issues regarding PM Oli’s upcoming visit to China
Ahead of his official visit to China scheduled for December 2, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held discussions with former prime ministers and foreign ministers on Monday to gather input on the visit’s agenda.
Former Prime Ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhala Nath Khanal, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” participated in the meeting, alongside other former foreign ministers and current Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana.
During the discussion, Madhav Kumar Nepal, leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist) argued that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) aligns with Nepal’s interests and highlighted the potential benefits Nepal could reap from it.
RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane to be brought to Kathmandu
Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), who is in custody over cooperative fraud allegations, is set to be brought to Kathmandu for questioning on Tuesday.
Currently held at the District Police Office in Kaski for investigations related to three charges, Lamichhane is scheduled to be flown to Kathmandu on a Buddha Air flight at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Following the Kaski District Court’s decision on Sunday to extend his detention by 15 days for further investigation, he will be questioned in relation to the misappropriation of funds at Swarnalaxmi Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.
No case against Former Koshi Province Minister in human trafficking case
Former Koshi Province Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Lila Ballav Adhikari, who was arrested on charges of human trafficking during a visit to Japan, will not face prosecution.
The District Attorney’s Office in Kathmandu decided not to file charges against Adhikari, who was accused of forging ministry documents and identification to take three individuals to Japan without approval from provincial or federal governments on October 29.
Adhikari had lost his ministerial position and was suspended from all responsibilities by the CPN-UML after it was revealed that he traveled to Japan without authorization and took three individuals with him.
Gold prices drop by Rs 15,900 per tola
Gold prices have decreased significantly in the Nepali market today.
The Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation reported that gold is currently trading at Rs 151,300 per tola, down from Rs 167,200 rupees per tola on Sunday. It means that the price of gold decreased by Rs 15,900 per tola today.
Silver has also decreased in price, falling by Rs 115 per tola.
Santosh Narayan Shrestha appointed Chair of SEBON
Santosh Narayan Shrestha has been appointed the chairperson of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON). The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Monday.
The position had remained vacant since January 5, 2024, following the end of former chair Ramesh Kumar Hamal’s tenure.
The recommendation committee forwarded three names—Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Muktinath Shrestha, and Dr. Nabaraj Adhikari—to the government on Sunday.
Chitralekha Yadav appointed as Ambassador to Australia
President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Chitralekha Yadav as the Nepali Resident Ambassador to Australia.
The appointment was made on the recommendation of the Government of Nepal and the Council of Ministers.
Yadav previously served as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) and held a ministerial position in the Cabinet.
EC directs local govts to declare public holiday on by-election day
The Election Commission (EC) has instructed local bodies to designate polling venues for the upcoming local-level by-elections scheduled for December 1.
The EC urged these bodies to make the designated polling spaces available from November 28 until the conclusion of voting on December 1.
Voting will take place from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, according to the EC.
