UML requests government to prepare to protect people against the cold

KATHMANDU: The Central Disaster Management and Volunteer Services Department of the CPM (UML) today submitted a memo to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli urging the government to prepare to protect the citizens of Tarai Madhesh and other parts of the country from the near-coming cold weather.

A team led by Chief of the Department, Khimlal Bhattarai, met Prime Minister Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar today, and submitted a memo urging the government to make preparations to address the lack of warm clothes and firewood for people who suffer across the country during winter.

In the memo, the Department has suggested that the concerned agencies and institutions of the state should take measures to provide more security to those displaced by the recent natural disaster, including floods in Kathmandu valley as well as in Sindhupalchok, Kavrepalanchok, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhuli and other districts.

In response, Prime Minister Oli noted that the memo would be immediately sent to the relevant agencies through the Ministry of Home Affairs and emphasized that disaster preparedness and post-disaster search and rescue should be carried out in a coordinated manner.
