KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has instructed local bodies to designate polling venues for the upcoming local-level by-elections scheduled for December 1.

The EC urged these bodies to make the designated polling spaces available from November 28 until the conclusion of voting on December 1.

Voting will take place from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, according to the EC.

Through the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, the EC has instructed all local levels conducting by-elections to arrange for the use of community schools, private schools, ward offices, health posts, community buildings, industrial establishments, and other public places designated as polling venues.

During a meeting on Sunday, the EC also encouraged local governments to declare December 1 as a public holiday in their respective localities and to foster a conducive environment for the by-election, ensuring it is conducted freely, fairly, and efficiently, as stated by EC spokesperson Nota Pokharel Aryal.
