CHITWAN: An arrest warrant has been issued for 10 individuals, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with a cooperative embezzlement and fraud case in Chitwan.
The warrant was issued on Friday following a supplementary complaint filed by victims against former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane on Wednesday.
According to Information Officer and DSP Laxman KC from the District Police Office in Chitwan, the district court has now mandated the arrests.
The complaint was initiated by depositors of the Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative Organization, who have been in custody of Kaski Police.
Shalikram Dawadi, Chairman of the Cooperative Victims’ Struggle Committee, filed the complaint against Lamichhane and nine others.
A parliamentary investigation committee has revealed that Rs 108.18 million was illicitly invested in Gorkha Media Network from the Sahara Cooperative, which operates within Lamichhane’s constituency.
Former DIG of Nepal Police, Chhabilal Joshi, who is an investor in Gorkha Media, has also been implicated in the fraud case linked to Sahara Cooperative, chaired by Lamichhane’s associate GB Rai.
The depositors had previously lodged a complaint with the Chitwan Police, but the warrant was issued following the supplementary complaint filed against the ten individuals, including Lamichhane, on Wednesday.
Additionally, Lamichhane and Joshi are under investigation for involvement in fraud and embezzlement cases associated with several cooperatives, including Suryadarshan in Pokhara, Supreme in Butwal, Sanopaila in Parsa, Sahara in Chitwan, and Swarnalakshmi in Kalimati, Kathmandu.
The Kathmandu District Court has already issued arrest warrants for Rabi and Chhabi in the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case.
