Cooperative fraud case: Former DIG Chhabilal Joshi’s statement begins in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The statement of Chhabilal Joshi, the then vice-chair of Gorkha Media Network and former DIG involved in the cooperative fraud case, has begun at the office of the district attorney in Kathmandu.

Joshi, accused of misappropriating funds from Kalimati-based Swarnalakshmi Multipurpose Cooperative, was brought to Kathmandu from Pokhara for interrogation.

His statement is being recorded in the presence of government attorneys.

The Kathmandu District Court had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Joshi to investigate allegations of fund embezzlement at Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.

Joshi was previously taken to Rupandehi for questioning in connection with similar allegations involving Supreme Cooperative.

He was initially arrested in Kathmandu on September 22.

Joshi was brought to Kathmandu for questioning following testimony from Kumar Ramtel, whose statement implicated in the embezzlement of Swarnalakshmi’s funds.

Ramtel has since been returned to Pokhara.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway to bring Rabi Lamichhane, Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and former Home Minister, from Kaski to Kathmandu for his statement in the same case.
