KATHMANDU: Phanindra Nepal, a campaigner of “Greater Nepal”, has been taken into custody by police in Shantinagar.
According to SP Navaraj Adhikari of the Kathmandu Police Range, Phanindra Nepal’s arrest was deemed necessary to maintain peace and security. He emphasized that Nepal is currently being held temporarily.
The arrest coincides with the visit of Indian Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi to Nepal.
Authorities were concerned that Nepal might protest by displaying a black flag during this visit, as he has a history of opposing official visits from India.
Phanindra Nepal has been arrested multiple times for his protests, including a notable incident a few years ago when he was detained outside his home before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Nepal.
