Rabi fears govt may detain him for up to 90 days

Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been in Kaski police custody for 31 days since his arrest on October 19 in connection with the embezzlement of savings from cooperatives.

As Lamichhane’s detention continues, concerns are rising among party leaders and activists.

He was arrested at the party’s central office in Kathmandu, and the ongoing situation has prevented the RSP from fielding candidates in the local level by-elections to be held on December 1 across 42 municipalities.

Cooperative Fraud Case: Complaint filed against Rabi and Chhabi along with eight others in Chitwan

The crisis surrounding Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has intensified as allegations of embezzlement and fraud in cooperative savings continue to mount.

On Wednesday, victims of the Sahara Chitwan Multipurpose Cooperative lodged a formal complaint against Lamichhane and nine others in Chitwan, his home district.

Lamichhane, a former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, has been in police custody in Kaski since October 19 in connection with a separate cooperative fraud case.

Indian Army Chief Dwivedi arrives in Nepal

Indian Army Chief of Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

He is in Nepal to receive the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army (NA).

On Thursday, President Ram Chandra Poudel is scheduled to confer the honorary rank on General Dwivedi.

Nepal exports electricity worth Rs 12.72 billion to India in first quarter of current fiscal

In the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Nepal supplied electricity worth Rs 12.72 billion to India.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), one billion 667 million and 892 thousand units of electricity, the surplus during the rainy season, was exported to India. The export rate per unit was Rs 7.63.

The NEA sells surplus power to Haryana and Bihar states of India through the Day Ahead and Real Time Market of Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) at a competitive rate under the bilateral mid-term electricity sale agreement.

Durga Prasai’s detention extended for 5 days

The Kathmandu District Court has granted an additional five-day detention for Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur arrested on charges of spreading confusion on social media by making serious allegations against Prime Minister KP Oli.

Prasai was brought before the court today to request an extension of his detention.

Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari’s bench approved the police request to continue his detention and investigation for five more days, as confirmed by Cyber Bureau spokesperson SP Deepak Raj Awasthi.

Three committees of Federal Parliament scheduled to meet today

Three committees of the Federal Parliament are scheduled to meet today: the Finance Committee, the Legislative Management Committee, and the Federalism Strengthening and National Concerns Committee.

The Finance Committee will convene at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar at 11 am.

The agenda includes discussing priorities and action plans regarding the bills received by the committee, with the Finance Minister in attendance.

Chhabilal brought to Kathmandu from Pokhara

The police have transferred former DIG Chhabilal Banjade Joshi from Pokhara to Kathmandu for an investigation into the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative fraud case.

SP Navaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the District Police Range in Kathmandu, confirmed that Joshi arrived in the capital last evening.

“We will begin taking his statement today,” SP Adhikari said.

Gold prices surge by Rs 900 per tola today

The price of gold, which rose by Rs 2,000 per tola on Tuesday, has increased again today (Wednesday).

According to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation, gold has gained Rs 900 per tola today, bringing the price to Rs 163,000.

Yesterday, gold had risen by Rs 2,000 per tola, Rs reaching 162,100.
