Durga Prasai’s detention extended for 5 days

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court has granted an additional five-day detention for Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur arrested on charges of spreading confusion on social media by making serious allegations against Prime Minister KP Oli.

Prasai was brought before the court today to request an extension of his detention.

Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari’s bench approved the police request to continue his detention and investigation for five more days, as confirmed by Cyber Bureau spokesperson SP Deepak Raj Awasthi.

Prasai, who was arrested from his home in Bhaktapur yesterday (Tuesday), was produced before the Kathmandu District Court today.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had transferred him to the Cyber Bureau for further questioning.

On Monday, Prasai publicly shared forged documents, claiming they proved that Prime Minister Oli had invested 32.5 billion Nepali rupees in a Cambodian telecom company.

His arrest followed the circulation of these documents on social media, which contained serious allegations against the Prime Minister.
