PM Oli and Deuba holding talks ahead of cabinet meeting

Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba are scheduled to meet in Baluwatar on Tuesday, ahead of a Cabinet meeting slated for 6 PM at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar.

During the Cabinet meeting, it is anticipated that Prime Minister Oli may address the performance of certain ministers who have been underperforming.

On Monday, the two leaders engaged in an extensive discussion covering topics such as a potential Cabinet reshuffle, the Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to China, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Cabinet meeting postponed as top leaders of Congress and UML hold talks

The Cabinet meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening has been postponed. Senior leaders of the ruling Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are now engaged in internal discussions.

Following Monday’s dialogue, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have resumed talks at Baluwatar, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.

The Congress delegation includes President Deuba, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, and Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba.

Durga Prasai arrested again

Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai has been arrested after publicly sharing controversial claims about Prime Minister KP Oli.

A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended him at his residence in Bhaktapur.

According to a CIB official, Prasai was arrested for investigation related to the dissemination of fake videos and documents concerning Prime Minister Oli.

YouTubers to be investigated in Durga Prasai’s arrest

Around a dozen YouTubers are expected to face investigation in connection with the arrest of controversial medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police is preparing to detain these YouTubers for their involvement in creating and spreading a fake video alleging that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli invested over NPR 32 billion in Cambodia.

On Monday, Prasai had hosted a YouTuber conference at his Bhaktapur residence, where he shared fake documents used as a basis for creating video content.

KATHMANDU: The country received Rs 407.31 billion in remittances in the first three months of the current fiscal year, the central bank said today.

“Remittance inflows increased 11.5 percent to Rs 407.31 billion in the review period compared to an increase of 25.8 percent in the same period of the previous year,” Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) stated in the Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation of Nepal Report, which is based on three months data ending Mid-October.

In US Dollar terms, remittance inflows reached 3.04 billion in the review period which was 2.76 billion in the same period of the previous year, according to the NRB.

Tea exports soar by 69 percent in first quarter

The Mechi Customs Office has reported a significant increase in tea exports, rising by 69.22 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

During the first four months (Shrawan-Kartik), a total of 8,062.16 metric tons of tea were exported.

Ganapati Kandel, Information Officer at the Office, noted that the increase in exports also led to a 67.87 percent rise in the value of the tea, which amounted to Rs 2.20 billion, up from Rs 1.31 billion during the same period last year.

Gold price up by Rs 1,100 per tola today

Gold prices in the Nepali market have increased today (Tuesday).

According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers, the price of gold increased by Rs 1,100 per tola on Tuesday, bringing the total to Rs 162,100 per tola.

On Monday, gold had already seen a rise of Rs 1,000 per tola, trading at Rs 161,000.
