CPN-UML congratulates NPP’s victory in Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has congratulated National People’s Power (NPP) Party for winning a two-thirds majority in the recently held parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka.

Issuing a press statement, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel expressed his belief that the victory of NPP party in the parliamentary elections will boost political stability, economic reforms, social justice and self-reliance in Sri Lanka.

In the election held on Thursday (November 14), the NPP won 159 out of 225 seats.

The UML wished Sri Lanka to be able to set an example in the world by making this option chosen by the people a success.

NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake won the presidential election held on September 21, 2024 after the change of power due to the movement of the Sri Lankan people two years ago against the dominant nepotism in politics and extreme economic crisis.

“Our party is happy with the results of the recent election in Sri Lanka, which is implementing it with strong faith in the multi-party democracy of the people propounded by the people’s leader Madan Bhandari that the Communist Party should lead the political, social and economic changes by winning the popular opinion and trust of the people,” the statement said.
