Nepal qualifies for U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup

KATHMANDU: Nepal has qualified for the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup after defeating the UAE by 8 wickets in the final match.

Chasing a target of 84 set by the UAE, Nepal reached the target in 14.3 overs with the loss of 2 wickets, securing the top position in the tournament and a place in the World Cup.

Earlier, Nepal bowled first after losing the toss and successfully restricted the UAE to 83 runs with 9 wickets down in 20 overs.

The U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2 next year, with 16 countries participating.

With Nepal’s qualification, the final 16 teams are now confirmed, including the host Malaysia, 10 teams from the previous World Cup, and five teams, including Nepal, from regional qualifiers.

Teams from the last World Cup include Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies.

From regional qualifiers, Nepal joins Nigeria, Samoa, Scotland, and the United States.

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups, with Nepal placed in Group D alongside Australia, Bangladesh, and Scotland.

India won the inaugural U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2023, where Nepal finished third in the qualifiers and could not secure a spot as the UAE took the top position in Asia.
